Heidi Kinsella, MA, LMHC, NCC, CSAT
Heidi has been actively involved in the recovery community for over 25 years. She comes to us from Gentle Path at the Meadows where she trained under and worked alongside Dr. Patrick Carnes, the pioneer in sex addiction treatment. She also had the pleasure of working with Dr. Claudia Black, an innovative clinician whose work involves examining the impact of chemical dependency and sex addiction on the family. During her time at Gentle Path, Heidi worked in the capacity of both primary and family therapist. She also led lectures on many topics related to sex addiction and family dynamics.
Heidi recognizes the importance of having a therapist who understands the complexities of addiction and who can work hand-in-hand with the 12 step process. She has worked with many individuals who have suffered from the effects of addiction, including chemical dependency, sex addiction, and those who have been affected by a loved one’s addiction. With her experience as a mental health therapist, she is uniquely suited to address issues that interfere with long-term sobriety or serenity.
Heidi believes in creating a safe place for clients to become vulnerable and self-aware so change can occur. She works collaboratively with clients to ensure they take an active role in their therapy. Her orientation to the practice of psychotherapy is integrative, where she uses a wide variety of techniques to help clients reach their goals.
Primarily, she works from a family systems framework, which means she believes that often addictions, mental health issues, beliefs, and communication styles are passed on from generation to generation. She believes that, with therapy, a client can become aware and take active steps to stop this generational cycle, which allows the client to make changes that will affect future generations in a healthy way. Heidi also draws on techniques from other therapeutic orientations in order to create a unique therapeutic experience for each client.
Heidi is licensed in the State of Washington as a Mental Health Counselor. She is also a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist. Heidi earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Washington and a Master of Arts degree from Argosy University, American School of Professional Psychology in Seattle.
