Relationship & Intimacy Specialist
Whitney is passionate about helping her clients heal and grow under the most difficult and painful life circumstances. She believes that no matter what brings you to therapy, having an empathic, compassionate and non-judgemental therapist can make all the difference in your journey to wellness. She believes in helping each of her clients by using a holistic lens that sees them for all of who they are- not just their diagnosis or presenting concern. Whitney makes it a priority to understand and honor each person’s unique experiences, perspectives, identities, and world view. She makes sure her clients feel heard, seen, and understood by using a warm and collaborative client-centered therapeutic approach.
Whitney enjoys working with individuals and couples. She specializes in couples and relationships, problematic sexual behaviors, sexuality concerns, chronic pain and illness, and betrayal trauma for partners hurt by infidelity. Her other areas of expertise and interest include depression, anxiety, identity exploration, body image, women’s health, navigating difficult life transitions, trauma, and healthy communication/boundary setting. If you are looking to work towards healing in any aspect of your life, she would love to have the opportunity to support you.
Whitney has a special interest in working with individuals and couples where chronic pain or illness is a presenting concern. She has worked extensivley in this area, both clinically and empirically, and has several research publications on this topic. She understands how the cycle of pain and illness can impact a person across all aspects of life (physically, emotionally, professionally, and more), as well as greatly impact a person's relationships with the people they care about most. Chronic pain or illness may often go hand in hand with feelings of shame, guilt, grief, depression, anxiety, and result in a fractured sense of identity. She works with clients who are experiencing chronic pain or illness to understand and process the various areas in which they have been impacted. In both individual and couple's cases where chronic pain or illness is involved, Whitney will work with you to co-create a holistic approach to treatment that instills hope, honors the mind-body connection, and takes measured, meaningful steps towards resolution of the social and emotional consequences of chronic pain and illness.
Whitney uses the Gottman approach and evidenced based treatment strategies to help couples that are interested in deepening their relationship, rekindling intimacy, or repairing the painful damages of intimate betrayal. She meets each couple where they are and creates a path forward to meet their unique needs. She believes honesty, vulnerability, and helping couples make meaning over events that led to broken trust is critical to repairing the relationship. Whitney will help you grow individually and as a couple. She also helps individuals struggling with sexual concerns and offers supportive techniques to achieve sexual wellness.
Whitney has received extensive training in treating problematic sexual behaviors through the Olsen Institute and uses the Integrated Problematic Sexual Behavior Model to help clients who feel out of control with their sexual behaviors. She understands that these behaviors can ruin a relationship and cause overwhelming feelings of shame. She can help you stop the destructive cycle, give you healthier ways to cope, and get your life and relationship back. You will learn how to be open and authentic and genuinely connect with others. She will help you gain a better understanding of what drives these problematic behaviors, address your pain, and live a life that is aligned with your values.
Whitney understands the devastating impact of intimate betrayal and the toll it takes mentally and physically on a hurting partner. She knows the excessive rummination, vigilance, and intense range of emotions that follow once relational betrayal is discovered and can provide effective strategies to help you regain your sense of self. When working with hurting partners, Whitney uses the Posttraumatic Growth Model for Intimate Betrayal to help alleviate trauma symptoms, manage trauma triggers and reactions, calm obsessive thoughts, create emotional balance, heal core wounds that arise, move through the grief process, connect with your self-worth, and help you regain peace and stability in your life.
Whitney works remotely to provide HIPAA-compliant telehealth sessions, which means you can attend private and secure sessions from the comfort of home. She is available to support clients who live in either Washington or Florida.
