Sally Torabi

MA, MA, LMHC

Mental Health Counselor

Relationship Specialist

Sally has been practicing as a therapist for over a decade. She has extensive experience working with couples and families as well as individuals across the lifespan. Sally is passionate to provide a culturally sensitive therapy, holistic care within a safe and judgment-free environment where clients can express themselves freely. With the experience of living in different countries and cultures, and working as a therapist with clients from different cultural/religious backgrounds, she appreciates how different and at the same time how similar we as human beings are. Sally has extensive experience of working with diverse communities including LGBTQ+ , immigrants, bi-racial couples, multi-racial and blended families, and neurodivergent individuals and couples. Sally believes that each and every individual deserves to fully enjoy life and to become the best version of themselves and she honors walking by the client through this process.

In her work with couples, Sally helps each person better understand their relationship dynamics and what is not working for them. Sally helps couples in improving their communication, strengthen their sexual-emotional intimacy, setting healthy boundaries, keeping work-life balance, and co-parenting. She helps couples achieve greater connection through deepening their listening skills and learning to express their needs and emotions in a productive way. When there is a rupture of trust, Sally guides couples through a healing process focused on repairing through honesty and rebuilding connection through vulnerability.

She helps individuals struggling with mental health concerns such as trauma, anxiety, depression, self esteem struggles, non-suicidal self-harming behaviors, suicidal ideation, and individuals struggling with problematic sexual behaviors. Whether it is compulsive porn use or risky sexual behavior, Sally provides a safe space to work through sexual struggles and help individuals achieve a sex life in line with their values. Also, Sally provides support to work on life transitions, work related issues, work-life balance, assertiveness, pre-divorce and post-divorce processes, acculturation issues (blending/fitting in), struggles related to identity, and gender transition. In addition, if something from the past is causing flashbacks or nightmares, you may want to have a few sessions to explore thoughts and emotions around that and process it. In that case also, Sally can be there for you. Sally's second masters degree focused on the use of spirituality in therapy and enables her to support clients who are dealing with spiritual/religious issues including confusion, feeling lost, disconnected or conflicted. Sally has experience helping non-believers as well as both former and current members of more conservative religions learn how to embrace their sexual desires and experiences without shame and embarrassment. Sally provides unconditional and non-judgmental support to clients regardless of their religious/spiritual backgrounds and beliefs.

Sally also has extensive experience of working with young children and teenagers. According to her systemic views, Sally usually includes parents and family in her work with young clients (5 to 12 years old). For years Sally has been assisting children and their families to work on anger outbursts, effective communication, setting rules and boundaries, issues between siblings, peer pressure, school issues, self-esteem, self-harming issues suicidal ideation, sexuality or gender transition/issues and parenting skills. If your family is going through challenges or changes such as a big move, or a divorce and you need support to communicate it with your kids, Sally will be happy to provide support. In working with kids, Sally uses play therapy techniques. She introduces tools through games and helps kids share and process their thoughts while playing.

She has a collaborative-integrative approach to therapy combining Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Informed Dialectical Behavioral therapy, Psychodynamics, Family systems and Life Span Integration therapy for trauma. Sally uses evidence-based techniques that result in positive and long-term outcomes. She has the experience of working in outpatient settings as well as inpatient and crisis management therapy settings.

About Sally

After obtaining a degree in computer engineering, Sally realized that something was missing.  Her desire to work with and have greater connection with people led her to pursue a career as a therapist.  Over the course of her exciting journey, she has obtained two masters’ degrees and many wonderful experiences.

Sally’s personal life is equally extraordinary.  She has lived and worked in different countries, allowing her to better understand cultural differences, while also developing a greater appreciation for the things that make us all similar as human beings.

For Sally, family is always first when away from work.  She enjoys time with friends and family and is at home doing backyard work, as well as painting in watercolor.
